Freddie

Freddie is an expressive and dynamic drum coach whose teaching is deeply rooted in originality, exploration, and creative freedom. Currently completing a Diploma of Music Performance and studying Jazz & Contemporary Drums with an expected completion in November 2026, Freddie brings both academic focus and real-world artistry to his teaching practice.

With a background that spans jazz, blues, pop/rock, funk, metal, R&B/soul, and reggae, Freddie confidently guides students through a diverse range of drumming styles. His technical expertise includes brush technique, blast beats, Moeller technique, polyrhythms and metric modulation, four-way independence, Afro-Cuban and Latin rhythms, and double bass drumming. He also incorporates advanced general musicianship into his lessons, offering training in sight reading, ear training, songwriting, composition, production, recording, improvisation, and transcription.

Holding Grades 1–8 in drums from Trinity, Freddie is not only technically accomplished but also actively performing in various jazz groups. His performance highlights include appearances at the Pestorious Sweeney House/Art Gallery Avant-Garde Exhibition, contributing to the Supermodel album composition project, and performing in a Charlie Parker bebop ensemble.

Influenced by an eclectic array of artists including Sly & The Family Stone, Max Roach, Steve Jordan, John Coltrane, Tony Williams, The Meters, D’Angelo, Massive Attack, Tool, Aphex Twin, and Black Midi; Freddie’s approach to drumming is informed by both classic and contemporary sonic landscapes. This broad palette allows him to connect with students of all stylistic preferences.

Freddie’s teaching philosophy is centered on empowering students to explore and refine their own sonic identity. He focuses on stick control, improvisation, rhythmic flexibility, creative thinking, and cultivating a sustainable, expressive relationship with the instrument. His mission is to honour and preserve each student’s personal style while offering deep technical insight, artistic guidance, and above all, a sense of joy and curiosity in the learning process.

With a unique voice on the kit and a sincere dedication to student growth, Freddie is passionate about sharing his vision of drumming as an expansive, transformative art form.
