Grant
Grant is a versatile and passionate piano coach who brings a dynamic blend of classical training, contemporary flair, and creative composition to his teaching. With a Bachelor of Music in Jazz and Contemporary Popular Music from MacEwan University and an ARCT diploma in piano performance from the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto, Grant offers students a strong foundation in both classical and modern styles.
With over three years of teaching experience, Grant helps students build confidence and creativity across a wide range of styles, from classical and jazz to pop, musical theatre, and contemporary music. He also offers guidance in sight reading, ear training, composition, and songwriting, and brings a strong background in accompaniment. Grant especially enjoys supporting students in collaborative music-making and is passionate about sharing his experience through accompaniment-focused lessons.
Grant’s creative voice is reflected in his performance and composition work, from writing a folk-rock score for A Midsummer Night’s Dream to composing Blue Noise Machine, a jazz-influenced concert band piece premiered by the Ardrossan Sr. High School Band. He was also a founding member of Trireme, a prog-rock trio active from 2023–2025, and performed as pianist and organist in MacEwan University’s Country/Roots Ensemble.
His musical influences span a wide spectrum from Philip Glass, Ravel, and Shostakovich to Sufjan Stevens, Maggie Rogers, Earth, Wind & Fire, and the Arctic Monkeys, informing a rich and diverse approach to both teaching and music-making.
At the heart of Grant’s teaching philosophy is a desire to help students connect personally with their instrument and develop both strong technique and artistic expression. Whether guiding a student through a Bach invention or a modern pop arrangement, Grant encourages exploration, creativity, and confidence at the keys.
