Jackson
Jackson is a dedicated drum coach at Sono with a Bachelor of Music and a true passion for sharing his knowledge. His extensive background in performance and mentorship makes him both a skilled musician and an approachable, supportive coach for those eager to explore the art of drumming. Active in a variety of genres, Jackson performs with Inovo, an alternative progressive rock originals band, and Melodia, a Greek covers band that brings a rich cultural energy to events and gatherings.
With over seven years of training under solo drummer Grant Collins, Jackson has cultivated a distinctive style that emphasises rhythmic innovation and technical mastery. This long-standing mentorship with Collins has been foundational in his development, and he’s eager to pass along the same dedication and discipline to his coaching. Alongside Collins, Jackson is inspired by influential drummers like Steve Judd of Karnivool, whose compositional expertise has taught Jackson the value of balancing intricate techniques with restraint to enhance musical expression. He also finds inspiration in the creativity of Benny Greb, the precision of Danny Carey, the technical brilliance of Troy Wright, and the inventive rhythms of Arnaud Verrier.
Jackson’s coaching approach involves sharing his extensive experience and building a supportive environment where drummers can grow and confidently explore their musical potential. He’s driven by a genuine love for teaching and guiding others through their own discovery of drumming, from mastering core techniques to developing a distinct personal style. For Jackson, coaching is about more than skill-building – it’s about fostering a deep connection to music and inspiring a lasting enthusiasm for drumming.
Drumming remains central to Jackson’s own life, and teaching allows him to continuously strengthen his foundations while exploring new techniques and ideas. By reinforcing fundamental skills and nurturing a space for creativity, Jackson remains inspired in his own practice. He is committed to being more than just a teacher; he’s a mentor who helps others cultivate not only their drumming abilities but also their passion and appreciation for the art of music.
