Jasper
Jasper brings a wealth of experience and passion for percussion to Sono School of Music, where he coaches across an array of styles and techniques. With a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Performance from the Jazz Music Institute, he has honed a diverse skill set that spans jazz, blues, rock, funk, metal, and more. His commitment to both rhythmic precision and musical expression ensures a rich learning experience for all levels.
A seasoned performer, Jasper regularly plays live in the band The Wet Fish, an instrumental surf rock band with a classic ’50s rock ‘n’ roll twist, and for solo artist, Dishpan Hands, a blues, Americana, and classic rock/pop outfit. His performance credits are impressive, including two interstate tours with the Former Angels, a support slot with legendary guitarist Albert Lee, headlining the Fish Lane Festival, and performing at the Mitchell Creek Rock and Blues Festival. Jasper’s vast performance experience offers clients insight into both the creative and practical sides of being a musician.
Influenced by a broad spectrum of artists, Jasper’s musical journey began with the rock sounds of Phil Collins, U2, and Genesis, evolving through the heavier beats of Metallica and Slayer during his teens. Later, his tastes expanded to include jazz icons like Chick Corea, Vinnie Colaiuta, and Steve Gadd, as well as soulful acts such as Fleetwood Mac, The Teskey Brothers, and Benny Greb. These diverse influences shape his teaching approach, allowing him to introduce clients to everything from classic rock to advanced jazz fusion.
Jasper’s favourite part of coaching at Sono is witnessing his clients’ progress. He relishes the opportunity to introduce them to new music, techniques, and concepts that spark further interest and passion for drumming. “It’s so rewarding to help people grow as musicians”. His goal as a coach is to keep clients engaged, inspired, and on track with their goals, guiding them through technical exercises and exploring new areas of rhythm and style.
With years of experience playing drums, studying music, and performing live, Jasper has a wealth of knowledge to impart to aspiring musicians. His sessions are designed to be both structured and inspiring, enabling clients to build strong foundations while embracing creativity. Join Jasper at Sono School of Music and be guided by one of Brisbane’s hardest working drummers.
