Well-versed in genres such as jazz, blues, metal, funk, pop/rock, R&B/soul, and reggae, Josh provides his clients with a rich musical foundation that spans both traditional and contemporary styles. With a focus on sight reading, composition, and ear training, his sessions are as structured as they are inspiring.

An active performer, Josh regularly plays with the psychedelic pop band Gregory, and tours with the Brisbane six-piece band Tyde, which brandishes a rich soundscape that ebbs and flows between prog-rock, funk, jazz, and folk. His live performance highlights include major events such as Bluesfest and Woodford Folk Festival, as well as multiple East Coast tours and a memorable tour at Hotham Ski Resort. This rich performance background allows him to give clients an inside view of both the art and discipline of live drumming.

Influenced by notable musical outfits such as The Moses Yoofee Trio and First Beige, Josh’s musical style is as diverse as his influences, spanning jazz, hip hop, fusion, and house music. His performances are shaped by a variety of sounds, which gives his coaching broad appeal and versatility. He’s passionate about introducing his clients to new musical horizons, helping them develop a unique style, and guiding them to understand rhythm in a deeper, more meaningful way.

In his role at Sono, Josh finds great joy in watching his clients progress, especially from their first song play-through to their first live gig. “Seeing the improvement and confidence build with each lesson is incredibly rewarding,” he shares. His teaching philosophy is rooted in the belief that anyone can learn to play drums, and he’s dedicated to helping clients realise their coordination, rhythm, and potential in a fun and engaging way.
