Matthew
Matthew, known as Matt, is a passionate and dedicated voice coach at Sono Music, where he began his journey in September 2022. Currently studying for a Bachelor of Music at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music, Matt brings a deep understanding of vocal technique, alongside his strong background in musical theatre and European classical music. Though vocals are his primary focus, Matt is also skilled at the piano, which he utilises in his composition work and to enhance his teaching approach.
Matt’s musical tastes are rooted in the world of musical theatre and classical music, with a particular love for iconic composers like Stephen Sondheim, Dmitri Shostakovich, Jason Robert Brown, and Aaron Copland. His own live performances often feature his original theatre compositions, and he enjoys collaborating with a wide range of instrumentalists to bring his works to life. This experience as both a composer and performer gives Matt a unique perspective, which he brings to his coaching, helping others connect with music in a meaningful way.
What Matt loves most about coaching is watching his members grow and develop confidence in their voices. He believes that becoming a better vocalist is not about striving for a specific sound, but rather about gaining an understanding of one’s own voice and learning to control it effectively. His teaching philosophy is centred around personal growth, self-expression, and technical mastery, allowing each individual to discover their true vocal potential.
Matt’s passion for music extends beyond just technique; he is deeply inspired by music’s power to reflect the human experience. Through his lessons, he aims to inspire singers to use music as a tool for emotional expression and connection, believing that no other medium has the same ability to communicate complex human emotions as effectively as music can.
With a focus on both technical development and artistic expression, Matt’s approach to voice coaching encourages each person to explore their unique vocal qualities while building the confidence needed to perform and share their voice with the world.
