Max M
Meet Max M, a dedicated drum coach at Sono School of Music with expertise in a variety of musical styles, including pop/rock, funk, R&B/soul, blues, and jazz. Max has a strong foundation in essential drumming techniques such as the Moeller technique, polyrhythms, and metric modulation, as well as four-way independence. His proficiency extends to sight reading, songwriting, composition, ear training, and production, making him a versatile educator.
With over ten years of experience playing the piano as well as advanced skills in mallet percussion and various other percussive instruments, Max brings a comprehensive musical background to his teaching. He has a passion for exploring various genres, drawing inspiration from artists and bands such as Mutemath, Twenty One Pilots, Starset, Sleep Token, Larnell Lewis, and composer Christopher Larkin. He specialises in musical genres such as rock, hard rock, funk, metal, and pop, with a focus on jazz.
Max performs regularly with his band, The Graveyard Club, an indie rock group that has performed across iconic Brisbane’s venues. The Graveyard Club have released two singles and are set to launch an EP, showcasing his talent and dedication to music.
In his role as a coach, Max emphasises the joy of drumming and considers it a privilege to share that passion with others. He finds fulfilment in witnessing clients enjoy their instruments and, more importantly, in helping them improve and understand music better. Max tailors his lessons to each individual’s goals, creating a fun and engaging experience that also builds strong technical skills through structured materials and exercises. He utilises various music resources to aid in learning songs, ensuring that clients have access to a wealth of knowledge.
With a Bachelor of Music from QUT, Max is committed to guiding clients through their musical journeys, fostering a supportive environment where they can achieve their drumming aspirations. His ultimate goal is to spread the joy of playing an instrument, empowering musicians to realise their musical potential while enjoying every step of the learning process.
