Oliver
Introducing Oliver, also known as Ollie, a highly skilled piano coach at Sono School of Music and is currently completing a Bachelor of Music, majoring in Composition. Ollie is adept in various musical styles, including classical, jazz/blues, pop/rock, contemporary/modern, and musical theatre, providing a comprehensive educational experience for pianists at all skill levels.
His expertise encompasses composition, ear training, sight reading, and songwriting. In addition to piano, Ollie has some experience with drums and tuned percussion, allowing him to offer a well-rounded approach to music education.
Ollie’s musical influences span multiple genres, particularly drawn to soundtrack-like music and passionate about compositions for film, television, and video games. He finds inspiration in composers who integrate orchestral instruments into contemporary music settings, such as Hans Zimmer and other film composers, alongside performers like Lindsey Stirling. His appreciation for jazz is reflected in his enjoyment of a wide range of jazz music, including traditional, big band, and jazz fusion. He particularly enjoys big band arrangements of video game pieces, as well as works by 8-Bit Big Band. Having been raised on contemporary piano, Ollie has had the opportunity to explore a broad array of classical repertoire, while his true passion lies in modern piano music, especially compositions by artists like Patrik Pietschmann.
Ollie actively performs at various gigs with the Kate Street Big Band, showcasing big band swing music from the 1930s and 1940s. He is also a member of jazz fusion ensembles, which perform twice a year at the university. Currently, he is compiling a portfolio of his original compositions and is preparing for a special Christmas event with the Kate Street Big Band, where he is learning an extensive repertoire. Additionally, he looks forward to performing at the Griffith Conservatorium showcase at the end of the year.
Believing that fun and creativity are essential to all aspects of music, Ollie is passionate about sharing his love for music with others. He strives to cultivate a relaxed yet refined lesson environment that encourages experimentation and fosters a love for music. Ollie’s goal is to ensure that clients not only improve their skills but also discover the joy of making music. With music experience in spades, he is well-equipped to guide aspiring musicians on their musical journeys at Sono School of Music.
