Hosted by Declan
If you have ever wanted to be able to sing metal or rock music with the same intensity, aggression and passion as your favourite frontmen and frontwomen, then this workshop is for you! Singing with distortion or “gravel” in rock and metal music can be extremely taxing on the voice, and if it isn’t performed with the correct techniques, it can cause unwanted strain and damage.
In this workshop, Declan will take you through the fundamentals of vocal distortion, vocal fry and false-cord belting, and how to approach them in a healthy and controlled way. You will learn how to engage each distortion method properly, and how to blend the tones with your normal voice. In addition, you will also learn engaging and disengaging techniques, as well as various exercises that you can repeat each day to develop these techniques.
Aimed at ages 13+. No instrument necessary – ideally warm up your voice and drink plenty of water in advance as there will be practical group exercises. Bring a notebook and pencil and wear your best band shirt!
