Logan is a highly skilled and passionate piano coach at Sono School of Music, where he specialises in jazz, blues, pop/rock, musical theatre, and contemporary styles. With an Advanced Diploma of Music Performance from Melbourne Polytechnic, Logan’s training and experience have equipped him with the expertise to teach a broad range of clients, from beginners to advanced players. His background in both classical and contemporary music means Logan is adept at adjusting his approach based on each client’s unique learning goals, ensuring they experience steady improvement while staying engaged in the music they love.
Logan’s musical influences are eclectic, drawing from classic 50s and 60s jazz, folk and country music, and film and game scores, making him a versatile coach with a deep understanding of various genres. Influenced by artists and composers such as Herbie Hancock, Bill Evans, Yoko Kanno, and ZUN, Logan brings a wealth of knowledge in jazz, blues, and contemporary music to his sessions. His personal love for Australiana and genre-crossing styles adds another layer of depth, allowing his clients to explore music that may be new or unexpected, enriching their own musical experiences.
As a musician, Logan has a broad skill set beyond piano, including expertise in sight reading, composition, and ear training, which he uses to build a solid foundation for his clients. His teaching style is both structured and flexible; he values each client’s time and appreciates the freedom he has at Sono to guide them in their desired musical directions. Whether it’s helping clients master a specific technique, introducing them to jazz improvisation, or diving deep into the nuances of musical theatre scores, Logan ensures each person has a tailored experience that respects their individual pace and style.
Logan’s personal mission as a music coach is to share those “I can’t believe I just played that!” moments, which come from reaching and exceeding one’s musical goals. His excitement for these breakthroughs is palpable, and he strives to make every session a rewarding experience. By guiding individuals toward self-expression and confidence at the piano, Logan believes anyone can experience the profound joy that comes from mastering a new piece, discovering a love for improvisation, or understanding music theory on a deeper level.
